Honoring the Sacred Lineage: The Healing Power of Remembering
A Shamanic Perspective
There are times in the year when we’re naturally invited to pause and reflect on where we come from—and May is one of those times.
As the month unfolds, we’re reminded of the deep connections we share with those who came before us, and how their lives continue to shape our own in ways both seen and unseen.
In many ways, this is a time for remembering.
In shamanic traditions, our ancestors are not simply figures of the past. They are living presences within the energetic field of our lives. Some come forward as benevolent guides — offering wisdom, protection, and support. Others may carry unresolved patterns or experiences that continue to echo through generations.
Whether conscious or not, we are in a relationship with our lineage. You may notice this connection in subtle ways—through memories that arise unexpectedly, dreams that feel unusually vivid, or emotional responses that seem disproportionate to the present moment. At times, you may feel a pull toward understanding your family history, or a desire to make sense of recurring patterns in your life. These are not random occurrences. They are invitations. Invitations to remember. Invitations to bring awareness to what has been carried forward. Invitations to participate in healing—both for yourself and for those who came before you.
The Dual Nature of Lineage
Within every lineage, there exists both shadow and light. There may be inherited patterns of fear, loss, or disconnection—experiences that were never fully processed or resolved. These can show up as emotional tendencies, relational dynamics, or limiting beliefs that feel deeply ingrained. And yet, alongside these challenges, there are also profound gifts.

- Resilience
- Strength
- Creativity
- Intuition
- A deep capacity to survive, adapt, and endure

These qualities have been passed down as surely as any difficulty. Part of the work is learning to recognize both—to neither deny the pain nor overlook the gifts.
Healing Through Acknowledgment
Healing often begins with something very simple, yet deeply powerful: acknowledgment. To pause and recognize that you are part of a much larger story. To honor those who came before you—not only for what they did well, but for the fact that their lives, in all their complexity, made your life possible. This doesn’t require agreement with everything that occurred. It doesn’t mean condoning harm or dismissing difficult experiences. It means bringing awareness and compassion into the relationship.
Something to Try
Here’s a simple practice you might like to explore:
Take a few quiet moments, perhaps outdoors if possible.
Bring your awareness to your breath and your body.
Then, in your own way, acknowledge your ancestors.
You might say, “I honor those who came before me. I acknowledge both the struggles and the strengths within my lineage. I choose to carry forward what serves, and to release what no longer belongs to me.”
Notice what arises as you do this.
Becoming a Bridge
In many ways, each of us serves as a bridge between the past and future. What you choose to heal and transform ripples forward—affecting future generations and contributing to the collective field. In remembering, there is healing. In honoring, there is strength. And in awareness, there is transformation.
An Invitation to Explore Further

Working More Closely Together
For those who feel ready to dig deeper, having guidance and support along the way can make a meaningful difference. Working with ancestral patterns and spiritual connections often unfolds in layers. Having a grounded space to explore what arises—to ask questions, receive insight, and stay aligned with your inner knowing—can be incredibly supportive. If this resonates, you’re welcome to explore opportunities to work with me more closely.
