(#19) CROW SAYS “Believe in the Magic”

“Magic exists. Who can doubt it, when there are rainbows and wildflowers, the music of the wind and the silence of the stars? Anyone who has loved has been touched by magic. It is such a simple and such an extraordinary part of the lives we live.” —Nora Roberts

“Children see magic because they look for it.” —Christopher Moore

I’m truly amazed at how plants grow. How do they know what to do and when to do it? What are their secrets? I can read about a particular plant, study biology, agriculture, botany, yet none of these can explain the magic of how it works, how a flower knows when to bloom, or the fruit on the tree knows when to ripen. This past season I was successful in growing some vegetables that ended up on our dinner table direct from the garden out back. I love this kind of gardening and it always delights and amazes me as to how the Earth gives us sustenance when properly cared for.

Then there’s the magic of how children grow from these tiny seeds inside the mother’s womb and emerge into the world and unfold physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually day after day. Turn around and your two year old is now in elementary school. Turn once more and they are graduating from high school. Now I turn around and my two daughters have borne children. Amazing and magical!

In addition the natural magic that happens every moment of every day around us, you can access the magic of Creation via your thoughts and beliefs. In fact you are so powerful that it is possible to create miracles, particularly when your faith is strong and you are aligned with Spirit. In the guidebook that accompanies the Children’s Spirit Animal Cards, Crow give this message to children, though it’s completely applicable to all ages:

There’s a whole lot of magic in the world, but we can get so caught up in seeing it as ordinary that we miss it. How beautiful and magical it is to plant something in the ground and see it grow over time! Or how a caterpillar weaves a cocoon around itself and eventually out comes a completely different creature—a butterfly! Or even how the sun rises and sets every day.

You have that magic in you also—it’s just a matter of believing in yourself and appreciating the miracles that happen around you every day.  It isn’t necessary to have a magic wand, but know that you can influence your world by what you believe, because your thoughts have an incredible amount of power. If you think that something can happen and can feel what it will be like to have it crowhappen, then it most likely will happen. That’s how powerful you are! It might not happen right away or exactly as you imagine it happening, but stick with it and see how whatever you really put your mind to comes true.

To further reinforce this principle, there are suggestions that children can follow. For the younger child, parents can share with them these ideas and even create others:

* Start a collection of stories about miracles and keep them in a folder
* Notice the magic in the world that we take for granted, such as a rainbow after a rain, how the moon changes over a month’s time, the rise and fall of the ocean’s tides, or the awesome display of stars at night.
* Whenever you hurt yourself in any way, whether or not you require a doctor’s treatment, take note of how magically and remarkably well your body heals itself.
* Be aware of how the thoughts and beliefs you focus on are more likely to become true.

It’s actually much easier for most children to believe in the magic, so Crow really reminds them of the truth of that. As we age, the danger is that we take the magical and the miraculous for granted. Helping children with the above activities and those suggested below, found in the section of the guidebook addressed specifically to parents, can reawaken that sense of wonder and enchantment. As a parent, grandparent or guardian, you can reinforce the child’s natural capacity for this belief by practicing these things yourself. Here are those suggestions:

* Take your child to a magic show and don’t explain the tricks.
* Encourage the child to believe in God, angels, or other spirit guides that influence our lives and that they can ask for help from these non-visible beings.
* Whenever there’s an opportunity, point out the magic of the universe that you can see in the beauty of the natural world and the cosmos.
* Have age-appropriate conversations with your about how their thoughts and beliefs can directly influence their internal and external reality.
*Bring their attention to the “magic” of their body, which heals itself when we get a boo-boo.

It’s a matter of opening your eyes, your ears, and especially your heart. It is an amazing world, and we have this unique capacity of consciousness that allows us to direct the energy of our thoughts to where they transform into physical reality. I’m sure you can think of many instances where you were able to manifest something you wanted. Takes belief and faith, and you can teach the children to do so. As the more of us, both children and adults, think peaceful and loving thoughts, the more this will manifest in the world.

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” ―Roald Dahl

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” —W.B. Yeats
