Ancestors and the Creator
I’ve written previously about my sacred morning ritual of journaling. I’ve done this for several years and it has been so helpful in guiding me in my purpose.
There are two sections to the daily journal. The first is simply a report of what’s happening in my world and the outside world. The second section is what I call a “download.”
For this second part, I pause, take a couple of breaths and with my fingers placed on the keyboard, “they” start writing, transcribing the information I’m receiving from my guides.
I’ve done this nearly every morning for fifteen years. Typically, I refer to the source of the guidance my fingertips receive simply as the “Teacher,” and start this section with a “T.” Often, I’m only barely aware of what is being typed.
I’ve found myself over the past three years being more immersed in the relationship with my ancestors to the point that I’ve created two books and a deck of oracle cards about ancestors. During this time, what has been revealed to me is that the ancestors have been providing very helpful and often necessary guidance via these downloads.
They have described how they are an “Ancestral Council,” yet when they communicate with me, they are One Voice. Since this was revealed to me, I have had some interesting and mildly prophetic experiences, ones in which I’m shown and/or told that something will happen and within minutes, it does.
I’ll give you an example. A few days ago I had this brief flash that rain was on its way. I readily dismissed it because here in Oregon we are in the throes of summer with periodic heatwaves and cloudless skies. When I saw/heard this, I quickly looked at the sky and of course it was clear. However, about an hour later the sky darkened with clouds and as you might have guessed by now, it poured down with rain! It was as if the foretelling was a demonstration of what was emerging in my consciousness.
An interesting and useful story relating to this concerns African tribal spirituality, which is a thread that runs through the lives and practices of most tribal cultures. Their respect and appreciation for a Supreme Being runs very deep, yet their ancestors are the ones considered their spirit guides. The belief is that God is too big to consult directly, so their worship, consultations, and prayers are through intermediaries —specifically, their ancestors, who are considered their primary spirit guides.
As noted, the ancestors in my experiences of the past few years have proven to be exceptional, caring, and loving guides who are with me at all times, whether or not I’m consciously aware of their presence and their influence. They have even on occasion gifted me with foresight—helping me know what’s going to happen before it happens.
Test this out yourself by including ancestors in your prayers, journaling, meditating, or any spiritual or devotional practices. Your lineage goes back a long, long way, and I can absolutely guarantee you that ancestors are with you and available at all times.
